Mission report: L. Janiashvili, Natia Jalabadze [2009. 21.II-14.III]
The Leading Research Fellow of the Department of Ethnology of Caucasus Lavrenti Janiashvili and Senior Research Fellow Natia Jalabadze participated at the Georgian-German project "Revitalization of Traditional Law in Georgia.” The project aims at the study of the traditional law in the contemporary Georgia. The group of ethnologists, bringing together the two German (Stephan Voel and Elke Kami) and the two Georgian (Lavrenti Janiashvili and Natia Jalabadze) specialists plan to investigate and reveal the folk norms and elements of law, their forms, types and area of action. The project stresses the preservation of the traditional law, its specific and causing reasons. Each researcher will investigate the particular aspect of the problem, resulting in the joint publication. The research of Lavrenti Janiashvili investigates the traditional law in socialist Georgia, whereas the one of Natia Jalabadze is concentrated on the forms of taking vengeance. The project will last for 2 years, undertaken in different parts of Georgia and in Qvemo Qartli in particular.
